Swimming & Diving Up On St. Joseph's After Day 1

WESTON, Mass. – With the GNAC Championships just around the corner, the Regis (Mass.) men's and women's swimming & diving teams squared off with St. Joseph's (Me.) on Friday for Day 1 of a two-day dual meet at Regis Pool.

Both Pride teams closed the day with sizable leads. The men's team currently leads the Monks 102-55 while the Pride women, winners of all but one event, head to Saturday's races up 125-51.

The women's competition saw Jessica Higgins (Peabody, Mass.) cruise to three first place finishes. She won the 50 free (25.70), 100 back (1:04.41) then was joined by Jessica Zernitsky (Newton, Mass.), Amy Collins (Hanson, Mass.) and Sarah Leonard (Brockton, Mass.) to win the 200 free relay (1:20.80).

Zernitsky won two other races before the closing relay victory, placing first in the 100 IM (1:08.34) and 200 medley relay (2:03.79) with Leonard, Katherine Mariano (Newton, Mass.) and Ashlyn DeRoche (North Reading, Mass.).

Nick Rainville (Reading, Mass.) highlighted the men's competition for the Pride, winning the 100 IM (57.99), 500 free (5:08.67), and the 200 medley relay (1:48.66) with teammates Conner Schwarze (Melrose, Mass.), Josh Unas (Santa Clarita, Claif.) and Diego Colindres (Newton, Mass.).

Lawrence Reynolds (Hyde Park, Mass.) won a pair of races of his own, finishing first in the 200 medley relay (1:38.05) with Colindres, Paul Brennan (Rumford, R.I.) and Michael Bruno (Winthrop, Mass.), and the 50 free (23.63).

Distance races highlight Saturday's event schedule which includes the 1650 freestyle and 400 freestyle and medley relays. First races begin at 11:00 a.m.
