Higgins, Rainville Shine In Strong Showing For Swimming at CCC Invite

BRISTOL, R.I. – Jessica Higgins (Peabody, Mass.) grabbed five top three finishes, Nick Rainville (Reading, Mass.) won both the 50 and 100 freestyle races and the Regis (Mass.) men's and women's swimming teams placed third and second, respectively, Saturday at the Commonwealth Coast Conference Invitational hosted by Roger Williams University.

Higgins had her best finish in the 50 free, swimming the race in 26.59. She also boasted another silver finish in the 400 free relay (3:58.64) with teammates Jessica Zernitsky (Newton, Mass.), Sarah Leonard (Brockton, Mass.) and Ashlyn DeRoche (North Reading, Mass.).

Rainville had three outstanding individual performances on the men's side. In addition to winning the 50 (22.48) and 100 (50.22) freestyle races, he placed second in the 100 fly (53.96). He also joined teammates Grant Kollien (Acton, Mass.), Joshua Unas (Santa Clarita, Calif.) and Paul Brennan (Rumford, R.I.) for a third-place finish in the 400 free relay (3:36.21).

The women's side overall featured three top 10 finishes in the 50 free. Adding to Higgins' silver, Zernitsky placed fifth (26.78) and Leonard finished 10th (27.47).

The men's team also featured another bronze finish, this in the 200 free relay with Brennan, Lawrence Reynolds (Hyde Park, Mass.), Diego Colindres (Newton, Mass.) and Connor Schwarze (Melrose, Mass.).

The Pride next hit the pool on Saturday, Oct. 28 for a trimatch at Eastern Connecticut State with Bridgewater State. First races are set to begin at 11:00 a.m.
