Men's Swimming Wins, Women Second at Colby-Sawyer Tri-Meet

NEW LONDON, N.H. - Just one day after returning from a week-long training trip in Boca Raton, Fla., the Regis (Mass.) men's and women's swimming & diving teams returned to the pool in a tri-meet at Colby-Sawyer College with Simmons College on Saturday afternoon. The men pulled out the victory over the host Chargers 138-71, while the women defeated the Chargers 148-105, but fell short against Simmons 184-88.

On the men's side, junior Nick Rainville (Reading, Mass.) picked up the first victory of the day for the Pride, winning the 200yd freestyle with a time of 1:59.05. It was the first of two events won by the junior on the day, with teammates Kiet Luong (Malden, Mass.), Cassidy Bastianelli (Newton, Mass.) and Lawrence Reynolds (Hyde Park, Mass.) all winning two events to lift the Pride to the victory.

Defending Great Northeast Athletic Conference diving champion Elisabeth McQuaid (Marlborough, Mass.) emerged victorious on the afternoon, winning in the women's 1m dive. The freshman had a winning time of 190.12. Junior co-captain Jessica Higgins (Peabody, Mass.) picked up the other victory on the day for the Pride women, winning the 100yd backstroke with a time of 1:04.00. A swimmer from Simmons claimed every other women's race on the afternoon as the Sharks turned in a dominating performance.

Both the men's and women's teams will return to action on Jan. 21 as the Pride hosts Elms College at the Regis Aquatics Center. The first races of the day are set to get under way at 11:00 a.m.
