Women, Men Both in Second After Day One of GNAC Swimming Championships

BOSTON, Mass. - Day one of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships is in the books, and the Regis (Mass.) men's and women's teams both find themselves in second place. The men (119) sit behind only Norwich University, which sits in first with 203 points. The women's team (306) trails only the host Simmons Sharks, sitting comfortably in first with 586 points.

The Pride set five GNAC records in the pool on the opening day of competition, with Kiet Luong (Malden, Mass.) setting records in the 50 yard freestyle, 50 yard butterfly and 200 yard individual medley. Cassidy Bastianelli (Newton, Mass.) also set and individual GNAC record with his performance in the 200 yard freestyle. Luong and Bastianelli were half of the GNAC record-setting 4x200 yard freestyle relay team, along with teammates Nick Rainville (Reading, Mass.) and Bryan Johnson (Sudbury, Mass.).

On the women's side, freshman Elisabeth McQuaid (Marlborough, Mass.) won the GNAC Championship in the 1m dive, finishing with a cumulative score of 204.25. 

Both teams will return to action on Sunday for the conclusion of the GNAC Championships on the campus of Simmons College.
