Women's Swimming Sweeps Tri-Match, Men Finish Third

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Regis (Mass.) swimming and diving teams took to the road on Saturday afternoon to take on Norwich University and Babson College. The women's team picked up two wins on the day, beating Norwich 114-110 and Babson 121-100. The men failed to pick up a victory Saturday, falling to Norwich 147-81 and Babson 127-83.

For the third time in as many meets, the men's team opened the day with a big victory in the 4x200 medley relay. The Pride team of Kiet Luong (Malden, Mass.), Joshua Unas (Santa Clarita, Calif.), Nick Rainville (Reading, Mass.) and Bryan Johnson (Sudbury, Mass.) combined to defeat Babson's team by a mere seven one hundredths of a second, winning with a time of 1:40.67. Luong went on to win a pair of events individually on the afternoon to lead the Pride, winning the 50 yard freestyle and 100 yard backstroke.

On the women's side, sophomore Katherine Mariano (Newton, Mass.) picked up the Pride's fist victory of the day in the fifth event, the 200 yard freestyle. Jessica Higgins (Peabody, Mass.), Jessica Zernitsky (Newton, Mass.) and Sarah Leonard (Brockton, Mass.) also all won events individually. The afternoon was capped off by a Pride victory in the 4x200 freestyle relay, featuring Higgins, Gloria Sutton (Suffield, Conn.), Ryan Moran (Arlington, Mass.) and Zernitsky.

"We faced tremendous competition today with Norwich and Babson and I am really proud of how well we raced and competed today," said Regis head coach James Sweeney. "We have been training extremely hard and, being very sore and tired, we really stepped up today which was great to see. We have been on a tough stretch of meets the last 5 weeks and we have one more next week at St Joe's before the holiday break as we look towards the GNAC Championships the first weekend of December to finish out this semester."

The Pride returns to the pool on Friday when they travel to St. Joseph's College (Maine) to take on the Monks. The first races are set to get under way at 6:00 p.m.
