Luong, Higgins Lead Way For Pride At CCC Invitational

BRISTOL, R.I. - Kiet Luong (Malden, Mass.) had two first-place finishes, Jessica Higgins (Peabody, Mass.) placed in the top three in three events and the Regis (Mass.) men's and women's swimming & diving teams both placed second at the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Swimming Invitational.

The meet was hosted by Roger Williams and also included Clark University, the University of New England, Gordon College, UMass Dartmouth and Western New England University. Roger Williams swept the team competitions of the 24-event meet.

Luong took top honors in both the 100 fly (53.09) and 100 backstroke (57.86) while also placing third in the 200 IM (2:03.13). He also swam to a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:40.43) with teammates Joshua Unas (Santa Clarita, Calif.), Nick Rainville (Reading, Mass.) and Bryan Johnson (Sudbury, Mass.).

Rainville and Johnson had solid days of their own, both finishing second in the 100 free (51:05) and 50 free (22.87), respectively.

Higgins had a solid day for the Pride women who shared second place with UNE. She finished third in both the 50 free (25.70) and 100 backstroke (1:03.84) and also came in fourth in the 100 fly (1:04.42) to round out three top five in finishes in as many different strokes. She also joined Sara Leonard (Brockton, Mass.), Ashlyn DeRoche (North Reading, Mass.) and Jessica Zernitsky (Newton, Mass.) for a third-place finish in the 200 medley relay (2:00.41).

The Pride are in action next week hosting Bridgewater State and Eastern Connecticut State Saturday, Oct. 29. First events at Regis Pool begin at 11:00 a.m.
