REGIS WRAPS UP RECORD SEASON AT ECAC’S

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Regis College men and women swimming and diving teams competed in the third and final day of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) championships Sunday at the United States Naval Academy.

Sophomore Jessica Higgins (Peabody, Mass) kicked off the prelim session with a new school record in the 200 backstroke clocking in at 2:09.14. Higgins lowered her record that she set two weeks earlier at the NEISDA championship. Next up for the Pride was sophomore Nicholas Rainville (Reading, Mass.) and junior Cassidy Bastianelli (Newton,Mass.) with strong showings in the 100 freestyle. Rainville clocked in with a time of 47.21 and Bastianelli finished in 47.34. Bryan Johnson (Sudbury, Mass.) nabbed the school record in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:12.35. For the last individual race of the day, Kiet Luong (Malden, Mass.) stopped the clock at 1:54.52 in the 200 butterfly earning him a spot in finals. The 400 freestyle relay team of Bastianelli, Rainville, Johnson and Luong touched in at 3:09.94 landing them a spot in finals.

At finals, Luong lowered his time from the morning in the 200 butterfly touching in at 1:53.98. With the last event of the meet, the quartet of Bastianelli, Rainville, Johnson, and Luong were back at it in the 400 freestyle relay, breaking another school record and lowering their time this morning at 3:09.23. Leading off the relay was Bastianelli with a split of 47.40, Rainville swam the second leg at 47.35, Johnson went third touching in at 48.25, and anchoring the relay, Luong had a strong finish hitting the wall with a time of 46.23.

Over the course of the weekend the Pride were able to lower 15 school records with the men finishing 13th beating out several Division I teams.
