WOMEN PLACE 2ND, MEN 3RD AT GNAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

BOSTON, Mass. – After two grueling days of competition, the Great Northeast Athletic Conference crowned its 2013 Women's Swimming and Diving Champions and Men's Invitational winner this evening at the Holmes Sports Center. The Regis College women's swimming and diving team came in second place, while the men's team posted a third place finish.

The women's field was faster than ever, as 13 GNAC records and seven pool records were broken over the course of the weekend's events.

On the women's side, Regis scored 126 points as runners up, with Haley Bowen (Litchfield, N.H.) scoring 30 points for the Pride. Bowen set a new GNAC record in the 200 Breast (2:33.94) and finished second in her other three individual events.

In third place, the men scored 134 points and posted wins in the 50 Free, 100 Fly, 200 Back, 100 Back, 100 Free, and 50 Back. The Pride had the 2013 GNAC Men's Invitational top scorer, as Kiet Luong (Malden, Mass.) won all four of his individual events for 36 points. The Pride also set three new GNAC records. Luong re-broke his 100 back time from a day ago with a time of 57.69 and set a new GNAC and school record in the 50 back with a time of 25.02.

Coach Sweeney said, "Today was just awesome, as a team we really stepped up and raced even better than yesterday. We had more best times, more New England and ECAC qualifying times, more GNAC and school records, along with smarter racing."

"We have trained very hard this season and being about half way through our season, it is tremendous to see so much progress within such a short amount of time."

The Pride return to the pool on January 17 when the women's team hosts the GNAC Champion Simmons College at 6:00 p.m. Both teams travel to Colby-Sawyer on January 18 for a 1:00 p.m. meet in New London, N.H.
