PRIDE WELL REPRESENTED AT ECAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Several members of the Regis College men's and women's swimming & diving teams competed in the ECAC Championships this past weekend at Harvard University.

On the men's side, the relay team of Alex Graf (Newton, Mass.), Djordje Mandic (Portland, Maine), Greg Sarantakis (Lowell, Mass.) and Andy Laforest (Roslindale, Mass.) took 19th place in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay after swimming the event in a time of 1:32.40.

Individually, Graf also competed in the 50 Yard Freestyle and the 100 Yard Freestyle, where he took 39th place and 40th place, respectively. Graf swam the 50 Yard Freestyle in 21.94 and the 100 Yard Freestyle in 48.07.

For the women, Brenna Melanson (Litchfield, N.H.) also competed in two individual events. The sophomore took 29th place in the 50 Yard Freestyle after posting a time of 25.13, and 18th place in the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 53.83.

Head Coach James Sweeney was very pleased with the performances of his swimmers.

"Attending the ECAC Championships was a tremendous step for our team as it has been several years since we last attended this championship. The competition was very fast with schools from D1 to D3, and we performed really well," said Sweeney.

Sweeney added that "attending this was also tough since we just had our New England Championship just a few weeks ago and it is difficult to come back and race at your best so close to each other. The best swim came from Greg Sarantakis who took off over 2 seconds on his 50 free split time. We really had a great season overall and I am really looking forward to working the team out harder next season with higher goals in sight."
