SHARKS SWIM PAST PRIDE ON FRIDAY NIGHT

BOSTON, Mass. - Simmons swimming & diving took first place in eight of thirteen events to defeat the Regis College Pride 137-81 Friday evening at the Holmes Sports Center. The Sharks snap a two-meet losing streak with the Great Northeast Athletic Conference victory.

Regis' Brenna Melanson (Reading, Mass.) took home top honors in the 50 free and 100 backstroke events, while the Pride's 200 Medley Relay of Kaitlynn LaPolt (New Haven, Conn.), Haley Bowen (Litchfield, N.H.), Megan Pratt (Rockland, Mass.) and Lucia Liorente (Newton, Mass.) finished five seconds ahead of the Sharks.

Haley Bowen also found success in the 100 yard breastroke with a time of 1:14.18, while Kaitlynn LaPolt finished in second at 1:26.53. The 400 yard freestyle team of Megan Kennelly (Milford, Mass.), Shannan O'Neil (Lowell, Mass.), Lucia Liorente and Brenna Melanson also took the top spot with a time of 4:06.07.

"As we begin to get more rest, and break into different groups, we had a mix of results tonight," said coach Sweeney. "Overall we again had many best times and new championship cuts. We got a few closer to making them too so I expect us to have several more in our last few meets."

"We also had some tired swimmers too, which I expected with the hard training that we are still doing as they prepare for championships. I am excited to see our ladies compete tomorrow in a tough back-to-back competition as most are swimming different events. "

The Pride take on Colby-Sawyer College tomorrow afternoon in a dual meet scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
