PRIDE FALL TO WPI, ROGER WILLIAMS IN TRI-MEET

WORCESTER, Mass. - The men's and women's swimming & diving teams each fell to both Roger Williams and WPI in a tri-meet on Saturday afternoon. The Regis women were defeated by WPI (4-3), 231-52, and by Roger Williams (6-3), 230-49, as the Pride drop to 2-4 on the season. The men fell to WPI (4-3), 215-28, and to Roger Williams (5-3), 210-37, giving the men a 3-3 record on the season. Despite the losses, both teams saw several of its members swim well.

On the women's side, sophomore Haley Bowen (Litchfield, N.H.) had a standout performance for the Pride after finishing in the top-five in four events. Individually, Bowen placed fourth in the 100 Yard Breaststroke (1:12.71) and 200 Yard Breaststroke (2:39.01), while she took fifth place in the 200 Yard Individual Medley (2:30.00).

Bowen also helped Regis take fourth in the 200 Yard Medley Relay along with Kaitlynn LaPolt (New Haven, Conn.), Shannan O'Neil (Lowell, Mass.) and Megan Pratt (Rockland, Mass.). The relay team came in at a time of 2:08.93.

O'Neil and Pratt also took fourth place in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay along with teammates Megan Kennelly (Milford, Mass.) and Lucia Llorente Ruiz (Newton, Mass.), as the team swam the event in a time of 4:11.83.

Individually, O'Neil took fourth in both the 100 Yard Butterfly (1:10.12) and the 200 Yard Freestyle (2:12.16), while Pratt finished seventh in the 100 Yard Butterfly (1:12.01).

For the men, the relay team of Nick Yerzyk (West Hills, Calif.), Stephen McGovern (Dorchester, Mass.), Andy Laforest (Roslindale, Mass.), and Alex Graf (Newton, Mass.) took fourth place in the 200 Yard Medley Relay, coming in at a time of 1:45.50.

Yerzyk also had a strong individual performance in the 50 Yard Freestyle, as his time of 23.15 was good for a fourth place finish. Graf placed fifth in the 100 Yard Backstroke (1:00.41) and sixth in the 200 Yard Breaststroke (2:30.26). McGovern placed fifth in the 100 Yard Breaststroke, coming in at a time of 1:07.08, while Laforest's time of 54.94 was good for a seventh place finish in the 100 Yard Freestyle.

"After coming back from an intense week of training in Puerto Rico, our swimmers really did an amazing job Saturday. I did not expect having us put in so many best times, it was really encouraging to see and to see them continue to race smarter and more aggressive," said head coach James Sweeney.

"Having to race against two very good teams was a great benefit for our young team. The training trip was one of the best weeks of training that I have had as a coach, and I am really excited for our team as we head into our last dual meets and the upcoming championship meets."

The Pride will be back in action on Saturday as both teams will host Colby-Sawyer at 12:00 p.m.
