Pride Drop GNAC Contest to Blue Jays

West Hartford, Conn. – The Pride struck first against St. Joseph (Conn.) but could not hold on as the Blue Jays defeated Regis 2-1 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer contest Saturday.

Erin Filetti (Newburyport, Mass.) scored her first goal of the season and Emily Lange (Ashland, Mass.) collected an assist on the Pride goal, while Angie Caldwell (Goffstown, N.H.) made four saves in net.

The Blue Jays fired the first shot of the game just 18 seconds in, but Caldwell corralled the ball to make the save. Meanwhile, USJ goalie Lindsey Montminy made four saves in the first half on all four shots she faced.

The Pride got on the board early in the second half when Lange found Filetti open, Filetti then fired a shot from distance giving the Pride a 1-0 lead. Ali O'Neill answered 1:58 later off a corner kick taken by Melissa Lux that found the foot of Olivia Norton, as Norton then found O'Neill for the game tying goal.

With just over 11 minutes remaining in regulation the Blue Jays crossed the ball into the box, and Caldwell made a diving play to break up the pass. She was unable to control it as Paola Jimenez fired a shot into the upper left corner to give St. Joseph the lead.

Regis outshot the Blue Jays 7-6, but St. Joseph held the lead in corner kick opportunities, 3-1, including a goal off a set piece.
