Anselmo Scores Six, Women’s Lacrosse Rallies Past Norwich

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Kerri Anselmo Natick, Mass.) scored three goals in each half and the Regis (Mass.) women's lacrosse team rallied from a four-goal first-half deficit to edge Norwich 9-8 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action Tuesday night at Sabine Field. The Pride moved above .500 in conference play at 2-1 and 4-2 overall while the Cadets dropped to 2-3 and 1-1 in the GNAC.

The Pride trailed 4-0 less than eight minutes into the game and by three goals early in the second half. After allowing a Mary-Kait Mace goal just 1:35 into the half, Regis turned up the defensive pressure in the second half, slowing the Cadet attack with a tweaked defensive gameplan.

After holding Norwich scoreless for nearly 17 minutes in the second half, the Pride took the lead with 12:19 to go off of a Malorie Kiehl (Burlington, Mass.) unassisted goal, and Norwich never regained it. Olivia Bloom made it interesting with an unassisted goal with 1:21 to go to make it 9-8, but the Cadets couldn't find the equalizer and Regis walked away with the 9-8 victory.

The Cadets looked to be in good shape, coming out on fire in the first 10 minutes of the game and opening up a quick 5-1 lead. Regis got a late goal from Anselmo to close out the first half and narrow the Norwich halftime lead to a slim 5-3 margin.

Brooke Ross (Hanover, Mass.) added a pair of goals which came in the second half as part of the Pride's rally.

The Pride returns to action on Thursday, Mar. 29 with a non-conference visit to Fitchburg State. Start time is set for 4:00 p.m.
