Women's Lacrosse Drops Season Opener

WESTON, Mass. - The Regis (Mass.) women's lacrosse team had no answers for a high-powered Framingham State offense on Wednesday afternoon as the Pride dropped its season opener 17-2 in both teams' home opener at Regis Stadium.

With the loss, the Pride falls to 0-1 on the season, while the Rams improve to 1-0.

A pair of goals in the opening three and a half minutes put the Rams ahead, but junior Malorie Kiehl (Burlington, Mass.) scored the Pride's first goal of the 2018 season at the 6:15 mark to cut the deficit to 2-1. From there, however, Framingham State's offense went into overdrive, scoring the next 10 goals in the first half to go to the break ahead 12-1.

The Rams continued to roll in the second half, scoring five unanswered goals to open the period. With just inside three minutes to play, Regis sophomore Kerri Anselmo (Natick, Mass.) scored her first goal of the season on a free position shot to end the game at 17-2.

Four different Rams finished the afternoon with hat tricks, led by sophomore Grace Gamache (Dartmouth, Mass.) with an impressive four goals and four assists. Freshman Alissa Marino (Trumbull, Conn.) tallied four goals on the afternoon, while Hanna McMahon (Watertown, Mass.) and Audrey Duhaime (Belchertown, Mass.) each tallied three goals. Of the 17 goals scored by the Rams on the day, 16 were scored by either freshmen or sophomores.

Framingham State also had a strong performance between the pipes on the afternoon, as junior Indigo Fox Tree-McGrath (Bedford, Mass.) made eight saves to record her first win of the season. Senior Maresa Malcolm (Barrington, N.J.) took the loss, recording three saves in 30 minutes of action. Freshman Brittany McPherson (Lynn, Mass.) came on in relief in the second half and recorded five saves.

The Pride will be off for a week before hitting the road for a non-conference tilt with Ramapo on March 7. Framingham State returns to action this Saturday with their home opener against Curry College at 12:00 p.m.
