WINTHROP, Mass. – Improving her batting average for the second consecutive year, this time by a significant amount, junior infielder Ellery Rasmussen (Kingston, N.H.) was voted First Team All-Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) by the league coaches, as the postseason softball awards were announced Tuesday by the conference office.
Rasmussen earned First Team recognition in the utility position after starting 16 games at first base, 16 games at third base, and two games in center field. It is the first All-GNAC selection for the Regis softball team since the athletics program joined the conference at the start of the 2017-18 academic year.
One of four players to start all 34 games this season, Rasmussen batted .414 with 41 hits, including 10 doubles, two triples, and two home runs, plus she scored 16 runs and collected 13 RBI. She finished the season with a .448 on-base percentage and a .616 slugging percentage, currently sitting sixth in the GNAC in batting average, fifth in slugging percentage, and tied for seventh in doubles.
During the season, Rasmussen put together a 12-game hitting streak from April 2 through April 17, plus she reached base safely in 17 straight games starting with the Fitchburg State doubleheader March 28 and continuing until the Emmanuel twinbill April 17.
From April 8 through April 14, Rasmussen batted .846 (11-for-13) with five doubles, one triple, and five RBI in doubleheaders against Rivier and Lasell, earning the first GNAC Player of the Week award for the Pride softball team. She moved into a tie for fifth place on the Regis single season hits list with 41 and a tie for third on the Regis single season doubles list with 10, plus she earned her 100th career hit during the first game of the April 27 doubleheader against Albertus Magnus.
Regis is represented on the GNAC Softball All-Sportsmanship Team by freshman infielder Sarah Fawcett (Londonderry, N.H.) for her commitment to the program and to fair play throughout the season. Fawcett also started all 34 games for the Pride, earning 20 hits, including six doubles, and leading the team with 13 walks and 15 runs batted in.
Rasmussen and Fawcett are eligible to return to the Regis softball program next year as the team aims to improve after a tough 2019 campaign.
