Softball Drops Twinbill To Lasell On Senior Day

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis (Mass.) softball team dropped both ends of a Great Northeast Athletic Conference doubleheader, falling to Lasell 5-3 in game one then blanked in game two 6-0 on Saturday at Regis Field. Pride senior Alexa Nejaime (Sandisfield, Mass.) was honored prior to the games for her contribution to Regis softball.

Game 1

The first inning told the story in game one. Regis (7-21, 3-17 GNAC) gave up five runs in the top of the first then put three up on the board in its half of the first, a score line that would carry through the final six innings.

Arianna Genovese (Rocky Hill, Conn.) set the tone for the game, delivering a three-run homer after Victoria Spellman (Rocky Hill, Conn.) and Alexis Truesdale (Wakefield, Mass.) reached base to open the game. The Lasers (11-25, 10-14 GNAC) tacked on a pair of unearned runs before the top of the first closed but Regis worked itself back in the game.

Brianna Napoleone (Medford, Mass.) put the Pride on the board with an RBI hit, then later, along with Ellery Rasmussen (Kingston, N.H.), scored an unearned run and the first closed with Lasell up 5-3.

Pride starter Allie Petillo (1-6) was lifted in the first inning with no outs for Alyssa Rossillo (Sudbury, Mass.) who pitched the remainder of the game but did not factor in the decision. She scattered four hits over seven innings while allowing two unearned runs. Nicole Arcese (3-9) earned the win for Lasell in a complete game effort allowing one earned run on four hits.

Game 2

The back end of the doubleheader saw a pitchers duel until five seventh-inning runs from Lasell blew the game wide open. Petillo (West Sayville, N.Y.) earned the start again and was sharp through four complete innings, tossing scoreless ball and giving up only two hits. Rossillo navigated well through the Laser order after coming in to start the fourth but gave up a run in the fifth which proved to be all Lasell would need.

Hailey Haskins (8-9) went the distance in the circle for Lasell, scattering five hits over six scoreless innings for the win.

Kelsey Grimard (Pelham, N.H.) led the Pride with a pair of hits with Bethany Hector (Jaffrey, N.H.) adding three hits including a double and an RBI. Haskins helped her own cause with two hits and two runs.

The Pride returns to action on Sunday at the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) for a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader. The games were the season finale for Lasell who now sets its sights on the GNAC Tournament.
