Men’s Cross Country Continues Season at UMass Dartmouth Invite

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Regis College men's cross country team finished in 32nd place among a large field of runners Saturday at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational, held on the Robert Dowd Course on campus.

Jovan Sematimba (Burlington, Mass.) was only two-tenths of a second off his time from last year's event, completing the eight-kilometer course in 28:18.93, finishing in 132nd place. Shane Romanchick (Trumbull, Conn.) was next for the Pride, crossing the finish line with a mark of 29:30.09.

JJ Pedersen (Milford, Conn.) posted a time of 30:06.20, finishing ahead of teammate Sean Toomey (Salem, N.H.), who ended up with a time of 30:37.84. Gustavo Novelle-Ruddy (Boston, Mass.) completed his first collegiate 8K race in 32:04.90, followed by Nicholas Sahagian (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) in 32:53.31 and Matt Sowden (Scituate, R.I.) in 35:25.22.

As a team, Regis compiled a total of 883 points for 32nd place, ahead of schools such as Rhode Island College and Salve Regina. Southern New Hampshire placed three runners in the top 10 to take the team title ahead of WPI, while Sam Brunnette of Plymouth State earned the individual title by seven seconds over Bridgewater State's Trevor Wysong.

Regis returns to action next week, traveling to Wenham, Mass., for the Pop Crowell Invitational hosted by Gordon College next Saturday, Sept. 22.
