Men’s Volleyball Honors Seniors, Falls To JWU In Season Finale

WESTON, Mass. – After a grueling five set match to Emerson, the Regis (Mass.) men's volleyball team had little left in the tank on the back end of today's trimatch, losing in straight sets to Johnson & Wales (RI) on Senior Day in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon at Higgins Court. Set scores were 25-22, 25-15, 25-14.

Prior to the season finale match for the Pride (8-17, 3-11 GNAC), Regis seniors Chris Fitta (Warwick, R.I.), Angel Pagan (Bayamon, Puerto Rico), Wade Robidoux (Granby, Mass.), Jeff Ramos (Pawtucket, R.I.), Marcos Aguirre (Norwalk, Calif.) and Brett Krahl (Santa Clarita, Calif.) were honored for their contributions to Regis volleyball. Despite the loss, the match featured a milestone for Krahl who eclipsed his 1000th career point for the Pride.

Aguirre made his first appearance after dealing with injuries for much of the season, earning the start and finishing tied for a match high with eight kills. Krahl and Drew Beimel (Redondo Beach, Calif.) both added five kills with Ramos registering a team-best four digs.

For the Wildcats (17-14, 9-5 GNAC), who also closed the regular season today, Dondre Crump (Chicopee, Mass.) shared match-high honors of eight kills with Aguirre while also posting four digs. Alex Seda (San Juan, Puerto Rico) added a match-high six digs.

Despite the sweep, the Pride had a shot at pulling off a set one win and taking an early lead. An Aguirre kill put his team up 14-10, forcing a JWU timeout. The Wildcats responded and took 19-17 lead off a Crump kill and a setting error from Jayson Vega (Ponce, Puerto Rico). Regis got within a point but down the stretch it was a pair of kills from Kanila Chang (Orlando, Fla.) that sealed the win.

Sets two and three belonged to JWU who cruised to the sweep. Regis led early in set two but saw the Wildcats go on an 8-1 run and grab a lead they would not relinquish. JWU opened set three winning eight of the set's first nine points and never looked back.
