Men's Volleyball Edged In Five Sets To Emerson

WESTON, Mass.Drew Beimel (Redondo Beach, Calif.) posted a double double with 10 kills and 12 digs for the Regis (Mass.) men's volleyball team but it wasn't enough to stop an Emerson rally in a five set loss to the Lions in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action Saturday at Higgins Court. Set scores were 25-18, 21-25, 16-25, 25-23, 15-4.

Jayson Vega (Ponce, Puerto Rico) posted 38 assists for the Pride (8-16, 3-10 GNAC) who nearly rallied in set four to take the match but after Emerson (12-10, 5-8 GNAC) held on for the win, the Lions dominated set five en route to the win. Nick Rusk (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) was the match's top hitter, drilling 17 kills and hitting at a team high .289 clip.

Brett Krahl (Santa Clarita, Calif.) added 11 kills for Regis with Wade Robidoux (Granby, Mass.) posting nine kills and Jeff Ramos (Pawtucket, R.I.) delivering a solid effort with seven kills and eight digs.

After dropping the opening set, the Pride responded with two solid wins in sets two and three. Set two saw Regis take a one point lead midway through and distance itself for the win. Kills from Krahl and Robidoux pushed the lead to 17-15 and later Robidoux got in on a block with Ramos to all but seal the win.

The Pride dominated set three and looked prime to take the match, but an impressive Emerson response pushed the match to a fifth set. The Lions twice held off Pride rallies with Rusk coming up with timely kills to stem the tide, his last two to seal the 25-23 win.

Set five belonged to Emerson who scored the set's first eight points as the two teams switched ends with the match all but in hand for the Lions.
