Men's Volleyball Suffers Back-to-Back Sweeps at SUNY Poly

MARCY, N.Y. - The Regis (Mass.) men's volleyball team ran into a buzz saw against SUNY Poly, dropping a pair of straight-set matches to the Wildcats Saturday at Wildcat Field House. Sets scores were 25-14, 25-20, 25-21 in the opening match and 25-17, 25-23, 25-23 in the back end of the doubleheader.

Drew Beimel (Redondo Beach, Calif.) led the Pride (0-3) in match one with seven kills, four digs and two blocks. Jeff Ramos (Pawtucket, R.I.) had a team-high seven digs and newcomer Inelson Alves (Brockton, Mass.) had five kills and six digs but hit at a team-low .053 clip.

Donovan Suguitan delivered a match-high 12 kills for the Wildcats (2-4) who hit at a .316 clip as a team compared to Regis at .123.

The Pride put up a much better showing in the second match, and were narrowly edged in sets two and three before ultimately falling in straight sets. Ramos was one off a match-high with 13 digs with Alves adding six kills and nine digs.

Derek Connelly led SUNY Poly with 17 kills and 14 digs.

Regis returns to action for its home opener Wednesday, Feb. 7 against Pine Manor. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
