Pride Men Resume Indoor Track & Field Season at Brandeis

WALTHAM, Mass. – Another school record was broken and several personal bests were achieved as the Regis College men's track and field team resumed the 2019-20 indoor season at the Reggie Poyau Memorial Invitational, hosted by Brandeis University Saturday at the Gosman Sports and Convocation Center.

In the first running event of the meet, JJ Pedersen (Milford, Conn.) broke the school record in the 3000 meter run, finishing in third place with a time of 9:14.74. His mark was over 15 seconds faster than the previous standard set in February 2018.

Cole Anderson (Falmouth, Maine) also scored for the Pride, finishing in fifth place in the weight throw with a top mark of 13.26 meters (43' 6"). Mark Dumas (Brooklyn, Conn.) was Regis' top finisher in the shot put, ending up in 18th place with a top throw of 11.52 meters (37' 9.5").

Sophomore Nicholas Pastore (Norwood, Mass.) started a busy day by posting a personal-best mark of 11.38 meters (37' 4") in the triple jump. Pastore also finished 16th overall in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.06 seconds and earned a long jump mark of 5.44 meters (17' 10.25").

Brett Kiesel (Rocky Hill, Conn.) also stayed active throughout the meet, starting with a 19th place finish in the 60 meter dash in 7.45 seconds. He won his heat of the 200 meter dash, finishing ninth overall with a time of 23.73 seconds, and then he completed his long jump competition, ending up with a mark of 5.53 meters (18' 1.75").

Pastore and Kiesel joined with Spencer Gagnon (Marshfield, Mass.) and AJ Corso (Broad Brook, Conn.) to finish third overall in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:39.89, 4/100ths of a second ahead of the host Judges. With that result, Regis ended up eighth in the team standings with 14 total points.

In other running events, Nicholas Sahagian (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) posted a personal-best time of 4:51.47 in the one mile run, while Corso led the Pride with a ninth place finish in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:07.99, winning his section of the event by over five seconds.

Regis College continues the indoor season next Saturday, Jan. 18, with a trip west to Northampton, Mass., for the Mary Grinaker Invitational, hosted by Smith College.
