Men’s Tennis Drops Close Contest to Wentworth

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College was able to split the singles matches with Wentworth, but the Leopards pulled ahead in doubles and held on to defeat the Pride, 5-4, Saturday in a non-conference men's collegiate tennis match at the Regis Tennis Courts.

Regis took the early 1-0 lead when the duo of Matt DaRosso (Yonkers, N.Y.) and Sebastian Torres (San Juan, Puerto Rico) won their contest in the number one position, 8-3. However, Wentworth won the doubles sets in the number two and three positions to head into singles with a 2-1 advantage.

Torres completed his sweep with a straight-set victory at number one singles (6-1, 6-2). The Pride took a 3-2 lead thanks to a convincing 6-0, 6-1 victory at number four singles by Josh Nolen (Fairfax, Va.).

Wentworth (1-0) clinched the overall match thanks to straight-set victories in the third, fifth, and sixth positions. The only contest that needed more than two sets came in the second singles position, as Evan Russell (East Wareham, Mass.) rallied from a first-set 6-3 loss, winning the second set 6-4 and the super-tiebreaker 10-8.

Regis (0-3) closes out the fall schedule with a trip to face St. Michael's College Friday, Oct. 4, with a 4 p.m. start.
