Pride Fall in Season Opener

WESTON, Mass. -  The Regis College men's tennis team opened up the 2019-20 campaign Friday afternoon at the Regis Tennis Center, falling to Gordon, 9-0.

The Fighting Scots took the lead by winning at third doubles, with the pairing of Will Jeffreys and Richard Ryzi defeating their opponents, 8-0. Gordon also took first doubles, 8-1, before John Marineau and Patrick Monahan completed the doubles sweep with an 8-3 victory.

In singles play, Monahan took fifth singles for the Scots (6-2, 6-0), Ezekial Hall also defeated his opponent in first singles, (6-0, 6-2), to earn the clinching point of the match for Gordon.

The Pride went on to drop sixth singles (6-1, 6-1) and fourth singles (6-2, 6-0).  Jonathan Frink earned a victory over Evan Russell (6-4, 6-4) in second singles, before the Scots closed out the match with a (6-2, 6-2) victory in third singles.

The Pride will be back in action on Sunday, Sept. 15 when they compete in the Nichols Invitational beginning at 10 a.m. in Dudley, Mass. Regis will then compete at Springfield College on Thursday, Sept. 19.
