Men’s Tennis Rallies for Regis Fest Victory

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College fell behind Division II school Saint Michael's College, but the Pride's top four singles players all came through with victories to give Regis a 5-4 win over the Purple Knights Saturday afternoon in a non-conference men's collegiate tennis contest at the Regis Tennis Center.

Down 4-1, Regis's comeback began at number three singles as Johnny Pallotta (Bay Shore, N.Y.) won his match in straight sets (6-3, 6-0). Luke Horton (Bass Harbor, Maine) filled the number one singles position and needed just two sets to defeat his opponent (6-3, 6-4).

Cam Charbonneau (Guilford, Conn.) also provided senior leadership at number four singles with a straight-set victory (6-4, 6-1) that tied the match at 4-4. At number two singles, Nolan Bebarta (Danville, Calif.) completed the comeback with a close straight-set win (6-4, 6-4).

Horton and Sebastian Torres (San Juan, Puerto Rico) provided the Pride's only doubles point with an 8-2 victory at the number one doubles position.

Saint Michael's (0-2) won at both number two doubles and number three doubles to take a 2-1 lead. The Purple Knights cruised to wins at number five singles and number six singles to establish their three-point advantage, but they could not earn that final point needed for the team victory.

Regis (2-1) will play three matches in five days, starting with a contest at Salve Regina rescheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 3:30 p.m. The Pride will then host Wentworth Friday, Oct. 5, at 5 p.m. and UMass Boston Sunday, Oct. 7, at 12 noon.
