Men’s Tennis Drops Hard-Fought Contest to Stonehill

WESTON, Mass. – Despite playing several close contests, the Regis College men's tennis team lost to Division II school Stonehill College, 9-0, Friday afternoon at the Regis Tennis Center.

The most competitive doubles set came in the number two position, as Regis's Luke Horton (Bass Harbor, Maine) and Johnny Pallotta (Bay Shore, N.Y.) battled Stonehill's Samuel Miller and Juan Riano Rojas. Horton and Pallotta traded games with Miller and Rojas before the Stonehill duo won the final three games for an 8-6 victory.

In singles, Sebastian Torres (San Juan, Puerto Rico) played in the number one position and stayed with Russell White until White was able to complete a straight-set victory (6-2, 6-4). Evan Russell (East Wareham, Mass.) won the same number of games at number six singles, losing to Luke Mendoza in straight sets (6-2, 6-4), while Nolan Bebarta (Danville, Calif.) took four games off Miller at number three singles in a Stonehill straight-set win (6-2, 6-2).

Regis (0-1) faces another Division II program next Tuesday, Sept. 11, traveling to face Saint Anselm for a 4 p.m. start. The third Division II team on the Pride's fall schedule, St. Michael's, will be the next home opponent for Regis, kicking off the athletic events on Regis Fest weekend Friday, Sept. 28, at 3 p.m.
