Men's Tennis Takes Down Johnson & Wales (RI), Advances To GNAC Final

WESTON, Mass. – The top seeded Regis (Mass.) men's tennis team booked its ticket to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tournament title match, dominating Johnson & Wales (RI) 5-1 in one of two tournament semifinals Saturday at the Regis Tennis Center.

Johnny Pallotta (Bay Shore, N.Y.) won the match-clincher at fifth singles in straight sets to lift the Pride to a finals matchup at Ramapo next Saturday, May 5 at the Athletic Center in Mahwah, N.J. Ramapo blanked Rutgers-Newark today in the other GNAC semifinal.

The Pride was in good shape after sweeping doubles play. Kyle Dugat (Houston, Texas) and Owen Pelissier (Hingham, Mass.) put Regis up after an 8-1 win at the three over Jack Hopkins (Hamilton, Mass.) and Robert Kliskey (Manchester, N.H.). Pallotta and Nolan Bebarta (Danville, Calif.) were next to finish with an 8-3 win at the two then, on the No. 1 court, Chris Harrow (North Reading, Mass.) and Luke Horton (Bass Harbor, Maine) edged Ryan Schiele (Lusby, Md.) and Gianni Rodrigues (Milton, Mass.) 9-8 (2) to put the Pride in the drivers seat.

Mitchell Weiner (Plano, Texas) dominated Kliskey 6-1, 6-0 on the No. 6 court as the first singles finisher. Gunnar Mahoney (Honolulu, O'ahu) swept Cam Charbonneau (Guilford, Conn.) at the four to give JWU its lone win but shortly after, Pallotta polished off Hopkins 6-3, 6-2 as the team celebrated with Pallotta on the court.

Start time between Regis and Ramapo is still to be determined.
