Men's Tennis Opens GNAC Play With 9-0 Win At Norwich

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Regis (Mass.) men's tennis team took the court for its first-ever Great Northeast Athletic Conference match and did so in style with a 9-0 win at Norwich, Saturday afternoon at Shapiro Fieldhouse.

Regis (10-4, 1-0 GNAC) swept doubles play but not without battling through some adversity. Both second and third doubles trailed before rallying for 8-5 wins on both courts. The two doubles team of Nolan Bebarta (Danville, Calif.) and Johnny Pallotta (Bay Shore, N.Y.) trailed 5-1 before winning seven straight games to grab the Pride's second win of the match. Both results came in after Chris Harrow (North Reading, Mass.) and Luke Horton (Bass Harbor, Maine) set the tone with an 8-2 win at first singles against the Norwich (4-2, 0-1 GNAC) tandem of Dylan Ackerman (Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands) and Alexi Gilmore (Haverhill, Mass.).

Harrow and Horton clinched the win in singles play, beating their doubles counterparts on the one and two courts, respectively. Harrow took down Ackerman 6-1, 6-1 before Horton topped Gilmore 6-2, 6-4 for the match clincher. Singles play also saw freshman Matt DaRosso (Yonkers, N.Y.) earn his first collegiate win, a 7-5, 6-3 sweep over Timothy Birnbaum (Mahwah, N.J.) on the No. 6 court.

Kyle Dugat (Houston, Texas) took down Noah Stillman (Danbury, Conn.) 6-3, 6-0 at fifth singles with Owen Pelissier (Hingham, Mass.) beating Maddy Muthukumaraswany (Montreal, Quebec) 7-5, 6-1. Bebarta had the toughest singles outing of the afternoon, rallying from a set down to beat Sam Beiter (Youngstown, N.Y.) 3-6, 6-4, 10-3.

Regis next visits Suffolk on Saturday, Apr. 14 for a 5:00 p.m. match played at North Reading High School. The Cadets play Johnson & Wales (RI) the same day at 1:00 p.m.
