Men's Tennis Downs Emerson for First Win

WESTON, Mass. - The Regis (Mass.) men's tennis picked up win number one of the 2017-18 season on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Lions of Emerson College by a final score of 6-3 at the Regis Tennis Center.

With the win, the Pride improves to 1-1 on the season, while the Lions drop to 0-1.

The Pride opened up the day by taking two of three matches in doubles play to jump out to a 2-1 lead. Regis won third singles by forfeit before freshmen Tim Miller (North Attleboro, Mass.) and Owen Pelissier (Hingham, Mass.) each picked up their first collegiate wins at No. 2 doubles, defeating Thomas McCorkle (Matthews, N.C.) and Bernando Garza 8-4.

The match was clinched by junior Luke Horton (Bass Harbor, Maine) at No. 2 singles. Horton defeated Emerson's Antonio Ramirez (Caracas, Venezuela) 6-2, 6-4. Also winning in singles for the Pride were senior Chris Harrow (North Reading, Mass.) over Dan Okin (Amagansett, N.Y.) 6-4, 1-6, 6-1 at No. 1 and sophomore Evan Russell (East Wareham, Mass.) over Garza 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4.

Next up for the Pride, they'll take on Salem State in their first road match of the season on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. The Lions will have three weeks off before taking on Curry on the road on Oct. 7.
