Pride Lands Four NEISDA, GNAC Swimmer/Diver of the Week Nods

WESTON, Mass. - Senior Kiet Luong (Malden, Mass.) of the Regis (Mass.) swimming & diving team has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week, while seniors Cassidy Bastianelli (Newton, Mass.) and Jessica Higgins (Peabody, Mass.) been named the New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association's Swimmers of the Week and freshman Elisabeth McQuaid (Marlborough, Mass.) Diver of the Week.

The honor is the third such award won by both Luong and McQuaid on the season, while it is the second for Higgins and first for Bastianelli.

Over the weekend, Luong won four events on the men’s side to pace the Pride at a dual-meet against Elms College. His 200 medley relay team won first place (1:47.34), before the senior won the 100yd fly (53.08), the 50yd fly (25.43) and 100yd back (59.74).

In last Saturday’s meet at Colby-Sawyer, just one day after returning from his team's training trip to Boca Raton, Fla., Bastianelli won the 50yd backstroke with a time of 26.28. He also won the 100yd backstroke with a time of 57.26. He led off the winning 200yd medley relay team with a 26.99 in the backstroke.

The same day, Higgins won the 100yd backstroke with a time of 1:04.00. She placed fourth in the 200yd freestyle with a 2:08.60 and anchored the 200yd medley relay and went a 25.53 in the freestyle leg. Higgins led off the second place scoring 200yd freestyle relay with a 26.78.

Also last Saturday, McQuaid won the 1 meter diving event with a score of 190.12. She competed in the 3 meter diving event for the first time in her collegiate career. She completed five dives to earn a total of 135.6 points.

The four honorees as well as the rest of the Regis swimming & diving teams will return to the pool on Saturday, Jan. 28 in a tri-meet at Bridgewater State University with the host Bears and Husson University.
