FIVE REGIS SWIMMERS ATTENDING ECAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

ANNAPOLIS, MD. - After a successful showing at the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships, five members of the Regis College men's swimming & diving team are headed to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships this weekend at the U.S. Naval Academy in Maryland.

Reigning ECAC Swimmer of the Week Alex Graf (Newton, Mass.) and freshman Kiet Luong (Malden, Mass.), last week's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Week, will each be competing in six events this weekend.

Graf, a junior, will be racing in the 50, 100, and 200 yard Free in addition to the 200 Medley Relay, 200 and 400 yard Free Relays. Luong will also partake in each of the three relays with Graf, as well as the 100, 200 yard Fly and the 100 yard Backstroke.

Freshman Cassidy Bastinelli (Newton, Mass.) will join Graf and Luong in each relay, while freshman Robert Ekberg (Northbridge, Mass.) is a member of the 200 and 400 yard Free Relays and senior Sean O'Brien is a member of the 200 Medley Relay.

"Last year was the first time the men's team attended the ECAC champs, and it was a great experience. Unfortunately we did not place in the finals last year, but with the experience and the way we swam at NE Champs we expect to make several finals in both relays and individual events this year," said head coach James Sweeney.

"We are looking forward to swimming even faster in a great facility to cap off a tremendous season."

The ECAC Championships will kick-off on Friday, Feb. 28 and run through Saturday and Sunday, March 1 & 2.
