RECORDS FALL AT NEW ENGLAND'S

By Breda O'Connor

10 individual records and 4 relay records were broken this past weekend at the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association Championships in White River Junction, VT.  Freshman Andy Laforest broke four individual records, Stephen McGovern broke three, Ben Perry broke two, and Nick Yerzyk broke one.  Captain Mick Moriarty also contributed, anchoring the record setting 200 freestyle relay.  The Pride finished 11th overall with 49 points.  It was a vast improvement from last year’s meet where the Pride was only able to muster a single point.

Stephen McGovern captured the most points for the Pride, earning 19 of the 49 total points.  He finished 7th in both the 50 and 200 breaststrokes (28.49 and 2:21.14, respectively) and 8th in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.41).

Laforest set new records in the 50 free (23.06), 100 free (51.73), 50 fly (25.19), and 100 fly (58.56).  Perry broke his own record in the 50 and 100 backstrokes (27.96 and 59.34, respectively).  Yerzyk also broke his own record in the 100 IM with a 1:00.29.

Of the 4 relay records that were set on the weekend, the highlight was a 7th place finish in the 200 yard medley relay.
