NORTON, Mass. – The Wheaton College men's lacrosse team used a balanced scoring attack to defeat Regis College, 17-7, in Pilgrim League action on Saturday afternoon at Mirrione Stadium. Wheaton improves to 4-4, 2-0 Pilgrim, while the Pride drop to 3-7 overall, 0-2 Pilgrim.

Regis sophomore Peter Leighton (Wilmington, Mass.) guided the Pride's attack with three goals while freshman Nicky Rodrigo (Miami, Fla.) scored a goal and handed out three helpers in the losing effort.

Junior Cam Hanlon (Hanson, Mass.) potted a game-high three goals to lead a group of ten different goal scorers for the Lyons. Seniors Sean Doherty (East Lyme, Conn.) and Billy McNamara (Mansfield, Mass.) both facilitated the offense with a game-high five assists.

Wheaton stormed out to a 9-0 lead over the opening 27:10 of action as McNamara and sophomore Matthew Hillman (Brookline, Mass.) paced the scoring outburst with two goals apiece.

The Pride finally broke into the scoring column with 47-seconds remaining in the second quarter on a tally from freshman Jack O'Brien (Milton, Mass.). Doherty highlighted the ten-goal first half with a behind-the-back marker at 4:34 of the first quarter on a feed by Hillman.

The Lyons outscored Regis, 8-6, in the second half to secure its fourth-straight win behind two goals from Hanlon in the third quarter. The Pride saw a goal and an assist come from Billy Stewart (West Roxbury, Mass.) in the second half, while Chris Campbell (South Hadley, Mass.) also tacked on a goal of his own.

Wheaton opened up the fourth quarter with four straight goals to extend their lead to 17-4. Despite the Pride putting up three unanswered goals to close out the game, their comeback proved to be too little, too late.

Regis freshman goalkeeper Morgan Ford (Smyrna, Ga.) stopped a game-high 16 shots on the day.

Freshman Liam Williams (East Lyme, Conn.) went 10-for-17 on face-offs to lead the Lyons, while O'Brien was 8-for-17 on the day for the Pride.
