Cam Wilkins Named GNAC Rookie of Week

WINTHROP, Mass. – Playing a significant role for the Regis College men's basketball team during a stretch of four games in five days, freshman guard Cam Wilkins (Taunton, Mass.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week, announced Monday afternoon by the league office.

For the week, Wilkins averaged 9.0 points per game on 70.8 percent field goal shooting (17-of-24) to go with 4.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per contest. He led the Pride with 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field against Trinity back on Dec. 30.

During the Catholic Colleges Classic, he contributed in other ways to Regis' victory over Rivier on Jan. 2, pulling down five rebounds and dishing out four assists in just 18 minutes. The next day against Emmanuel, he shot 7-of-8 from the field for 15 points to go along with six boards, four assists, and a season-high three steals as he played a season-high 31 minutes.

For the season, Wilkins continues to lead the GNAC in field goal percentage at 68.1 percent (49-of-72), plus he is shooting 76.3 percent (29-of-38) from the free throw line. He is tied for third on the team in scoring average and third in rebounding average at 11.5 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.

This is the second time Wilkins has received the conference's weekly rookie award this season, as he was previously honored Dec. 2, 2019. Friday's 15-point performance against Emmanuel was his seventh game with at least 10 points, including a season-high 28 points against Framingham State Nov. 26.

Regis (2-9) heads to Fitchburg State to face the Falcons Wednesday, Jan. 8, for a 6 p.m. tip-off, followed by the GNAC opener at Johnson & Wales Saturday, Jan. 11, beginning at 3 p.m. The next home game for the Pride is a non-conference contest against Lasell Wednesday, Jan. 15, starting at 7 p.m.
