NEW LONDON, N.H. — The Regis College women's field hockey team concluded their regular-season Great Northeast Athletic Conference schedule with a matchup at Colby-Sawyer College this afternoon. The Chargers defeated the Pride 7-0 at Mercer Field, dropping Regis to 4-11 on the season.
How it Happened
After the Chargers' first shot in the opening minute was denied by the post, Brooke Farquhar put her team on the board in the eighth minute off a feed from Zoe Dries. Allayna Martone (Elkridge, Md.) kept the Pride within striking distance, turning away a pair of scoring chances to send the game into the second stanza with her team trailing by just one.
A quiet second frame followed, with the only action coming from a pair of Charger goals in the 22nd and 24th minutes, extending their lead to 3-0 at halftime.
Just one minute into the half, Abby Olden extended the Chargers' lead to four. A minute later, the Pride earned a penalty corner in hopes of sparking some offense, but the Chargers' defense held firm. The Chargers then added two more goals to go ahead 6-0 entering the final stanza.
The Pride earned three penalty corners in the fourth quarter, with Ava Costello (North Easton, Mass.) taking two shots that were both stopped by the Chargers' goalkeeper while Hailey Ducharme (Millville, Mass.) saw her shot blocked. In the final minute, the Chargers added their final goal to seal the 7-0 victory over the Pride.
