Recognizing Regis Athletic Trainers in National Athletic Training Month

WESTON, Mass. – March is National Athletic Training Month, and the Regis College athletic department is honored to recognize three highly professional athletic trainers who work tirelessly to keep Pride student-athletes as healthy and prepared for competition as possible.

Ron LeClair leads the Regis athletic training office as Assistant Athletic Director and Head Athletic Trainer. Currently in his third year at Regis, LeClair leads the athletic training team as it works to ensure proper diagnosis, treatment, and appropriate referral if needed to ensure a complete and prompt recovery from injury or illness.

LeClair came to Regis from Brandeis University, where he was the Assistant Athletic Trainer/Strength & Conditioning Coach, assisting in the development and coordination of the strength and conditioning programs for the department's 17 sports. He was also instrumental in the development of the department policies and procedures manual, including updating concussion protocols and reviewing emergency action plans. LeClair, a graduate of Northeastern University and the University of Miami, also spent time with the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots.

Reegan Brackett is in her second year as an athletic trainer at Regis College. Most recently, she accompanied the softball and tennis teams on their Spring Break trip to Florida in early March, making sure they were prepared physically for a stretch of several competitions in a short amount of time.

Brackett came to Regis after a one-year stint as an athletic trainer with Professional Physical Therapy in New York, N.Y., collaborating with physical therapists on recommendations for exercise progressions and regression as well as creating home exercise programs for patients. A graduate of Lasell University, she also worked within the athletic training departments at Wagner College in Staten Island, N.Y., and the University of Richmond in Richmond, Va.

Chris Ikier has also been an athletic trainer at Regis College for close to two years as part of a staff that possesses knowledge in injury prevention; injury recognition; evaluation and assessment; immediate care; and the treatment, rehabilitation, and reconditioning of athletic injuries. Ikier came to Regis from Mount Ida College, where he served in the same role for two seasons.

A four-year member of the Lasell men's lacrosse program, Ikier has also been on the athletic training staff for the Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse. He was captain of the Laser men's lacrosse team as a senior and graduated from Lasell in 2016.

The National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) established the theme of the 2020 National Athletic Training Month as "ATs Impact Health Care Through Action," expressing the statement below on its posters.

"Athletic trainers are impacting change in health care. Together with doctors, coaches, school administrators, military leaders, government officials, performing arts organizations, and legislators, ATs are reshaping how injuries are treated and, more importantly, prevented. The future of health care requires action before, during, and after an injury, and ATs Impact Health Care Through Action."

The Regis athletic training staff is working even though spring competition seasons have been cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak, including oversight of rehabilitation programs of student-athletes recovering from injuries. Thanks and gratitude to Ron, Reegan, and Chris for their exemplary work and professionalism as they provide medical care to the Regis Pride student-athletes.
