Regis College Receives NADIIIAA Community Service Award

FULL PRESS RELEASE FROM NADIIIAA

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The National Association of Division III Athletic Administrators (NADIIIAA) announced Wednesday morning that Regis College is one of the recipients of the NADIIIAA Community Service Awards, recognizing impressive community service projects performed by student-athletes during the 2018-19 academic year.

Regis College was named the winner of the On-Going Project or Activity Award for the combination of the Pride spring teams raising one million Yards for Yeardley on behalf of the One Love Foundation for the second consecutive year. The NADIIIAA will present Regis with a commemorative award and up to a $750 contribution to the general scholarship fund during a reception at the NCAA Convention held at the Anaheim Marriott Saturday, Jan. 25.

Led primarily by the Pride men's and women's lacrosse programs, the Regis sexual violence prevention campaign, featuring Yards for Yeardley, involved all outdoor spring sport student-athletes, including those on the tennis and softball teams, who took time to walk a lap around our track with parents and visiting teams after several home competitions throughout the spring season.

Many other students, staff, and community members helped contribute towards this campaign as well, making it one of the most successful service engagement activities coordinated by the athletics department over the last several years. Since Regis began banking Yards for Yeardley in the spring of 2017, the campaign has caught on across many areas of campus.

That engagement culminated on April 11, 2019, when all members of the campus community were invited to walk a lap, a mile, or their own preferred distance to collect yards and raise awareness for the One Love campaign. Led by the Regis Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), most student-athletes and athletic staff members participated, as did many members of the Student Affairs and Enrollment staff.

The men's lacrosse and women's lacrosse student-athletes also took responsibility for a T-shirt sale, with proceeds donated to the One Love Foundation. In total, between 350 and 400 student-athletes participated in this activity, including those from visiting teams who joined Pride student-athletes in walking a lap around the track following a competition.

Regis College will once again support the One Love Foundation by collecting Yards for Yeardley in 2020, highlighted by two dedication games. The women's lacrosse One Love game will take place Tuesday, April 14, when the Pride host University of St. Joseph at Regis Stadium starting at 7 p.m. The next night, the men's lacrosse program faces Emmanuel College in its One Love game Wednesday, April 15, also beginning at 7 p.m.
