Regis Athletics Welcomes New Graduate Assistants for 2019-20

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College athletics department welcomes 11 new graduate assistants who will play significant roles in the operation of their chosen sport as an assistant coach. In addition, they will take on other duties within the department such as game operations, front desk duty within the athletics center and fitness center, and equipment. 

Megan Albertsen (Women's Lacrosse) – A native of Rockville Centre, N.Y., Albertsen played collegiate lacrosse at UMass Lowell, earning a spot in the starting lineup during her freshman season and remaining there throughout her career. A team captain in both her junior and senior years, she scored her only collegiate goal in the final game of her career at Hartford April 27, 2019. She is fourth on the UMass Lowell all-time list for career caused turnovers with 39, including 22 caused turnovers in 2017. Albertsen was named the team's rookie of the year in 2016 and defender of the year in 2017.

Albertsen coaches at Revolution Lacrosse, a high school and youth lacrosse club that encourages New England players to develop their lacrosse skills. In 2019, she earned her bachelor's degree in liberal arts with concentrations in psychology and sociology.

Warren Backman (Men's Soccer) – Originally from Spring Hill, Fla., Backman appeared in 47 matches, including 34 starts, as a back for the Emerson College men's soccer team from 2015 to 2017. After earning one assist in 2016, he finished with two goals and three assists in 2017, scoring his first career goal against Emmanuel Sept. 2, 2017. After dishing out two assists against Fisher Sept. 10, 2017, Backman collected one goal and one assist against Newbury Sept. 18, 2017.

Backman graduated from Emerson in 2018 with his bachelor's degree in sports communications. Over the past year, he has been the lead broadcaster for Boston City FC of the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL). He has also been playing for Boston Siege of the United Premier Soccer League (UPSL).

Ben Colello (Men's & Women's Cross Country and Track & Field) – Residing in nearby Sudbury, Mass., Colello was a multi-sport event specialist for the Dartmouth College track and field team from 2014 to 2018. He competed in seven Ivy League Championship events, earning Second Team All-Ivy League honors three times, including in both the javelin and the decathlon during the 2018 Ivy League Outdoor Track and Field Championships. He still holds the fourth-longest javelin throw (66.06 meters) and the sixth-highest decathlon point total in Dartmouth history (7,198 points).

After receiving his bachelor of arts degree in environmental studies in June 2018, Colello served as a volunteer assistant coach at Harvard University during the 2018-19 season, helping student-athletes in the pole vault, high jump, javelin, and decathlon.

Cameron Glover (Men's Lacrosse) – Originally from Brunswick, Maine, Glover was a four-year letter winner at Springfield College. A captain for the Springfield College Pride, he finished the 2019 season with 27 goals and 15 assists for 42 total points, earning Second Team All-NEWMAC, Third Team All-NEILA, and Honorable Mention USILA Division III All-America honors. He was chosen to play in the NEILA East-West Senior All-Star Game. In the classroom, he graduated this past May with a bachelor's degree in physical education and received USILA/Warrior and New Balance Division III Scholar All-America honors.

Glover emerged as a top player for Springfield in 2018, as he finished with 17 goals and 10 assists for 27 total points in 18 matches during his junior year. This past season, he helped the Pride win the NEWMAC Tournament for the sixth straight year with a 12-10 upset victory at Coast Guard to advance to the NCAA Tournament, where they won in overtime at Ursinus (16-15) before losing at Cabrini in the third round, 15-8.

Andrew Holmes (Men's Basketball) – Originally from Niskayuna, N.Y., Holmes was a four-year letter winner at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, N.Y. He appeared in a total of 94 games during his collegiate career. In his senior season of 2017-18, he started 24 of 26 games, averaging 8.0 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game. He led the team in free throw shooting percentage at 80.4 percent, plus he shot a career-best 47.3 percent from the field. He reached double figures in scoring 11 times, with a season-high of 19 points at St. Joseph's (L.I.) on Feb. 17, 2018.

Named to the Skyline Conference Academic Honor Roll, Holmes earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration with a concentration in sports management. He was a player development intern with the Dallas Mavericks from August 2018 to April 2019 before returning to the East Coast as a basketball skills trainer with 3D Athletics in Holbrook, N.Y., over the past three months.

Marina Kelly (Women's Soccer) – A native of Whitman, Mass., Kelly played both soccer and basketball throughout her collegiate career, starting with her freshman year at UMass Boston. In 2014, she earned Second Team All-LEC (Little East) honors in soccer after leading the league with 11 assists to go along with nine goals for 29 total points. She also appeared in 10 games for the Beacon basketball team. Kelly transferred to Clarion University, a Division II school located in Pennsylvania, and appeared in 52 matches, including 50 starts, for the Clarion soccer team from 2015 to 2017. She earned nine goals and seven assists for the Golden Eagles. For the Clarion basketball team, she appeared in 47 games, including 12 starts, earning 1.7 points and 1.7 rebounds per game from 2015 to 2018.

Kelly earned her bachelor's degree in secondary education and social studies from Clarion University in 2018. A substitute teacher in 2018-19, she also was the junior varsity girls' soccer coach at Scituate High School and the freshmen girls' basketball coach at Whitman-Hanson High School. In addition, she served as the head coach of the U10 and U17 teams within Mass City FC.

Amari King (Men's & Women's Volleyball) – Originally from Lawrence, Mass., King started her collegiate volleyball career at Anna Maria College, earning Third Team All-GNAC honors as a freshman before receiving GNAC Player of the Year and First Team All-GNAC recognition in 2016. She transferred to Worcester State University for her final two years, helping the Lancers win back-to-back MASCAC championships. She received MASCAC Player of the Year honors in both 2017 and 2018. Combining her stats at Anna Maria and Worcester State, King finished her collegiate career with 1,583 kills, a .237 hitting percentage, 171 service aces, 133 total blocks, and 1,396 digs.

King graduated with honors from Worcester State in 2019 with a bachelor's degree in communication. She will be pursuing her master's degree in nonprofit communication at Regis College.

Maria Krull (Field Hockey) – Krull, a native of Leicester, Mass., returns close to home after her stint as both a student-athlete and the director of operations for the Colgate University field hockey program. In her senior year, she was named the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year and earned Second Team All-Mideast Region honors from the NFHCA after posting a 2.54 goals against average and a .786 save percentage. She finished the 2017 season second in the nation in saves per game (9.7) and total saves (165) as well as seventh in Division I in save percentage. She is fourth on Colgate's all-time list for career saves with 545.

Krull graduated from Colgate in 2018 with her bachelor's degree in biology. She was a three-time member of the NFHCA National Academic Squad and the Raider Academic Honor Roll. 

Victoria Lux (Women's Basketball) – Originally from Arundel, Maine, Lux was a four-year starter for the Bentley University Falcons, an NCAA Division II program in Waltham, Mass. In her junior year (2017-18), she led the Falcons in scoring and rebounding at 13.4 points and 9.3 rebounds per game as she received First Team All-Northeast-10 honors. She followed that by averaging 11.5 points and 7.1 rebounds per game, earning Third Team All-Northeast-10 recognition as the Falcons posted a 28-4 overall record and advanced to the NCAA Division II Basketball Tournament. She completed her collegiate career with 1,236 points, 940 rebounds (fourth in program history), and 175 assists in 131 games played, including 118 starts, as the Falcons posted a 111-20 (.847) overall record.

Lux served on the Bentley Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) in 2018-19. She graduated in May 2019 with a bachelor's degree in business management with a concentration in leadership.

Jordan Smith (Men's & Women's Track & Field) – Originally from Tolland, Conn., Smith was a four-year letter winner in track and field for Utica College. He was a two-time Empire 8 champion in the javelin throw and became the first Pioneer to qualify for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the event, finishing 17th this past May with a top throw of 53.20 meters. He received All-Atlantic Region honors twice from the USTFCCCA and also earned All-Academic honors from the coaches' organization.

Also a three-year letter winner in soccer for the Pioneers, Smith graduated from Utica in 2018 with his bachelor's degree in health studies. He served as team captain for the track and field squad and holds USATF Level 1 Certification. 

Michaela Tosone (Athletics Administration) – A native of Walpole, Mass., Tosone was a captain and fundraising director for the club women's ice hockey team at UMass Amherst. She was a two-time All-Conference selection by the American Collegiate Hockey Association as well as a three-time honoree on the ACHA All-Academic Team. She graduated from UMass Amherst in 2017 with a bachelor's degree in sport management and communication.

Over the past two years, Tosone has been the director of operations for the women's ice hockey team at the College of the Holy Cross, helping the Crusaders make the transition to Division I status. Her primary responsibilities included serving as the team's travel and video coordinator, assisting with recruiting efforts, summer camps, and day-to-day office duties.
