Elizabeth Conant Awarded Grant to NCAA Division III New FAR Orientation

WESTON, Mass. – Dr. Elizabeth Conant, assistant professor of sport management who has taken over as the Faculty Athletic Representative for Regis College, has been awarded a grant to attend the inaugural 2018 NCAA Division III New FAR Orientation.

The orientation is being held in conjunction with the FARA Annual Meeting, taking place in Baltimore, Md., Oct. 31 through Nov. 3. In addition to attending the FARA Annual Meeting, Dr. Conant and her fellow Orientation participants will engage in pre-work, facilitated networking, daily debrief sessions, and a closing workshop.

"I am excited and grateful to receive this grant. I am looking forward to attending the NCAA FAR orientation as well as the annual meeting. It is my hope that I will learn more about the FAR position and ways that I can be of service to the Regis community, as a resource and an advocate for the interests of the student-athletes and coaches as well as my fellow faculty members. In addition, I am interested in becoming more involved with the GNAC FARs and learning about ways that we can best serve our schools within the conference and Division III," said Dr. Conant.

Dr. Conant came to Regis in 2010 as an adjunct faculty member within the health and fitness studies department, plus she served as head coach of both the women's soccer and women's lacrosse teams. She led the Pride soccer team from 2010 to 2014, compiling a 43-40-8 (.518) record in five seasons, highlighted by the 2012 season in which she was named NECC Coach of the Year after leading Regis to a second place finish within the league at 6-1-2 as part of an 11-4-3 overall record. She also coached women's lacrosse for three seasons, leading the Pride to the NECC championship in 2013 at 13-6 overall, including 5-0 within the league, on her way to NECC Coach of the Year honors in that sport.

"(Dr. Conant's) understanding and perspective regarding the daily challenges our student-athletes, coaches, and staff face, combined with her passion and belief that athletics are truly part of the overall educational process, lends itself perfectly to the FAR role," Pam Roecker, Regis College Dean of Athletics, said. "Further, her beliefs are a perfect complement to my philosophy as the Dean of Athletics!"

Regis College sponsors 20 NCAA Division III sports, all of which compete within the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC).
