Women’s Volleyball Opens 2019 Season with Sweep

FRANKLIN, Mass. – The Regis College offense hit over .300 throughout the match, while its defense forced Dean College into more attack errors than kills, as the Pride swept the Bulldogs, 3-0 (25-13, 25-7, 25-15), Wednesday evening in a non-conference women's collegiate volleyball contest at Pieri Gym.

Regis' newcomers led the way offensively, as Olivia Pacheco (Waterford, Conn.) earned a match-high nine kills while Rita Dow (Nashua, N.H.) finished with seven kills on eight attack attempts without an error as well as two solo blocks. Katryna Veasey (Quincy, Mass.) contributed six kills along with a team-high 11 digs, and Tori Ondris (Mineola, N.Y.) added 19 assists, three kills on three attempts, two service aces, and seven digs.

Dean (0-1) scored four straight points early in the opening set, but Regis worked its way back on top with an ace by Ondris. After the Bulldogs tied the set at 11-11, the Pride closed out the first set with a 14-2 scoring run, capped by a service ace from Meg Adams (Ware, Mass.).

The Pride opened the second set with an 8-2 scoring run, and then they continued to extend their advantage the rest of the set, clinching the set with two kills from Valerie Whalen (Stoughton, Mass.). Regis ran out to an 11-2 lead to start the third set, led by three service aces from Mica van der Meulen (Colorado Springs, Colo.), and then scored five of the final six points of the match, featuring two kills and a block by Dow.

No Dean player earned more than two kills as the Bulldogs accumulated only 10 kills while making 19 attack errors. Amanda Payne led the home team defensively with 14 digs.
