Pride Volleyball Extends Winning Streak to Four

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College took advantage of a strong service game as well as a solid offensive effort, sweeping Lesley University, 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-15), Thursday evening in a non-conference women's collegiate volleyball match at Higgins Court.

Katryna Veasey (Quincy, Mass.) led the Pride with 13 kills and nine digs, including seven kills and five digs in the third set, as she hit .321 in the match and also earned two service aces. Cassidy Wygonik led the Lynx with six kills, one service ace, and seven digs.

After committing a service error on the first point, Regis scored the next six points, including a block by Lauren Butt (Topsfield, Mass.) and Rachel Bartels (Edinburg, Texas). The Pride maintained a healthy lead throughout the opening set, clinching it on kills by Veasey and MacKenzie Emco (Sutton, Mass.).

Lesley (1-8) scored four straight points early in the second set, capped by an ace from Nicole Pietrocola, and then went on a 5-0 scoring run, starting with consecutive kills by Wygonik, to open a 13-8 lead. Down 17-12 after another Wygonik kill, Regis rallied from behind, closing out the second set with a 13-2 scoring run, punctuated by a kill from Brianna Paris (Everett, Mass.) and an ace by Veasey.

A service ace by Lesley's Teresa Imbsweiler tied the third set at 6-6, but Regis responded by winning eight of the next nine points to pull ahead, 14-7. The Pride kept the Lynx at arm's length, completing the sweep with kills by Veasey and Emco sandwiched around an ace by Emily Fagundo (Dover, N.H.).

The Pride committed only 10 attack errors, a season low as the team finished with a .241 hitting percentage. Mica van der Meulen (Colorado Springs, Colo.) collected 12 assists and five digs in two sets, while Fagundo contributed five assists, three service aces, and three digs. Defensively, Butt led Regis at the net with three total blocks, and libero Caroline Fuentes (Downey, Calif.) added eight digs along with two assists and two service aces.

Lesley setter Tallin Goldberg ended up with 11 assists, three kills, and six digs, while Maile Counts earned five kills and Ashley Keeney added seven digs to the Lynx's defensive effort. However, the visitors had more attack errors (23) than kills (18) and allowed Regis to earn 13 service aces. Lesley next plays at Becker in an NECC match next Tuesday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m.

Regis (7-4) makes a quick trip to Standish, Maine to face Saint Joseph's College Saturday, Sept. 22, starting at 3 p.m. The Pride will then play seven straight home matches, beginning next Wednesday, Sept. 26, against Lasell at 6 p.m. at Higgins Court.
