Women's Volleyball Closes Regular Season With Five-Set Win At Gordon

WENHAM, Mass. — The Regis (Mass.) women's volleyball team rallied in its first five-set match of the season, beating Gordon College to close the regular season in non-conference action Saturday. Set scores were 16-25, 25-13, 19-25, 25-19, 15-10.

Regis, who found itself by days end locked into the No. 5 seed in next week's Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tournament, was led by Katryna Veasey's (Quincy, Mass.) 12 kills and 20 digs and Lauren Butt's (Topsfield, Mass.) eight-block dominance at the net.

With the seedings set after today's results around the league, the Pride opens GNAC tourney play with a visit to fourth-seeded Lasell this Tuesday, Oct. 31 at 6:30 p.m.

The Fighting Scots (15-12) won the first set 25-16 as they recorded 16 kills and a .419 hitting percentage. They started the set on a 10-4 run before outscoring the Pride (12-15) 15-12 to take the set.

Regis won the second set 25-13 as they had 12 kills and a .478 hitting percentage. They started off the set with a 7-2 run. Gordon cut the lead to three points by scoring three out of the next four points before the Pride outscored them 17-8 the rest of the way to win the set.

Gordon won the third set 25-19 as they forced Regis into 12 attack errors. They started the set by scoring seven out of the first eight points. The Fighting Scots then went on a 16-14 run to take a 23-15 lead. The Pride scored four points in a row to cut the lead to four points before Gordon scored two straight on a kill by Mackenzie Hinds and a bad set by Regis to take the set.

The Pride won the fourth set 25-19 to as they forced eight attack errors by the Fighting Scots to send the game to the fifth set.

In the fifth set, the teams traded points back and forth until they were tied 8-8. Gordon scored the next point before Regis scored five in a row to take a 13-9 lead. Amanda Snyder had a kill to cut the lead to three, but the Pride closed out the set and the match as they forced an attack error and Veasey recorded a kill.

Rachel Bartels (Edinburg, Texas) posted 10 kills and five blocks with Nicole Connolly adding six kills, four aces, two blocks and eight digs.
