Women's Volleyball Falls On Senior Night To Mount Ida

WESTON, Mass.Sydney Trusty (Durham, Conn.) had 11 kills and 10 digs, Crystina Lathrop (Houston, Texas) and Nicole Connelly (San Mateo, Calif.) shared match-high honors each with 15 digs, but it came in a losing effort as the Regis (Mass.) women's volleyball team fell on Senior Night to Mount Ida in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action at Higgins Court. Set scores were 16-25, 29-27, 26-24, 25-9.

The Pride (7-12, 3-2 GNAC) looked to create some separation near the top of the GNAC table but were unable to sustain a dominant set one performance. For the Mustangs (13-7, 2-2 GNAC) Rachael Colombo (Wallkill, N.Y.) and Mary Kate Reidy (Agawam, Mass.) each posted a team-high 10 kills with Reidy adding a team-high 14 digs.

Prior to the match, seniors Sydney Trusty, Haley Schulte (Fullerton, Calif.), Nicole Connolly, Crystina Lathrop, Courtney Mosher (Taunton, Mass.) and Shay Faber (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) were honored for their contributions to Regis women's volleyball.

Despite sitting several starters, Regis used a 10-3 run to close out the opening set. The Pride looked prime to take a two-set lead after holding a 20-15 advantage in set two, but Colombo's kill and two service aces spearheaded five straight points to tie the set. MacKenzie Emco (Sutton, Mass.) tied the set twice during extra points but it was another Colombo kill that sealed the win and evened the match.

Set two saw the Mustangs lead 14-10 midway through the set and then later 20-14 after a Hanna Simkins (Walpole, N.H.) kill. This time is was the Pride's turn to rally, running off four straight points capped by block assists from Schulte and Emco. Regis would never be able to tie or take the lead though and fell 26-24.

The fourth and what proved to be the final set was all Mount Ida. An 8-0 run early in the set highlighted by a pair kills and a block from Colombo quickly ended matters and sealed the win for the Mustangs.

With its home schedule in the rearview mirror, the Pride visit Anna Maria on Saturday for a trimatch with Saint Joseph's (CT) and the host AMCATS. Mount Ida next visits Suffolk this Saturday for a trimatch against the host Rams and Framingham State.
