Women's Volleyball Sweeps Colby-Sawyer In Home Opener

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis (Mass.) women's volleyball team treated the Pride faithful to a fun evening, sweeping Colby-Sawyer in its home opener Wednesday night at Higgins Court. Set scores were 25-21, 25-21, 25-17. Regis improves to 2-7 while the Chargers drop to 2-7.

Katryna Veasey (Quincy, Mass.) and Sydney Trusty (Durham, Conn.) provided the offense for the Pride, each drilling a match-high nine kills and hitting at solid .400 and .320 clips, respectively. Trusty also added a match high 13 digs.

Rebecca Straubel (Altamont, N.Y.) shared team-high honors with eight kills while also leading her squad with nine digs. Olivia Goodrich (Epping, N.H.) ran the offense for the Chargers and posted a match-high 24 assists.

All three sets saw Regis breakaway from close contests and coast to the wins. In the opening set, the Pride went down 9-7 midway through then ran off four straight points led by kills from Shay Faber (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and Nicole Connolly (San Mateo, Calif.). Courtney Murray (Quincy, Mass.) became the CSC attack down the stretch with four kills late, but it wasn't enough as Regis paced to the win.

Set two saw Regis erase a three-point deficit midway through with an 8-1 spurt to take a 17-13 lead. Kills by Straubel, Murray and later by Alli Lahiff (Haverhill, Mass.) kept the Chargers within striking distance, but it was Trusty down the stretch who dominated at the net to seal the Pride win.

Set three proved to be all Regis. Runs of five and later six points helped the Pride cruise to the win and nail down the sweep.

Lahiff posted five kills for CSC with Nicole Olivieri (Salem, N.H.) adding three kills and four digs.

The Pride next take the court Saturday, Sept. 19 hosting a trimatch against Amherst (10:00 a.m.) and Saint Joseph's (Me.) (2:00 p.m.) for its GNAC opener. CSC plays Saturday as well with a trimatch of its own, playing Western New England (1:00 p.m.) and Framingham State (3:00 p.m.).
