NEW LONDON, Conn. - Sophomore outside hitter Katryna Veasey (Quincy, Mass.) had back-to-back matches with double-digit kills as the Regis (Mass.) women's volleyball team split a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at the Luce Field House on the campus of the United States Coast Guard Academy.
The Pride opened the day with their first win of the season, sweeping Nichols College (25-21, 25-18, 25-13), before falling in three sets to the host Bears (25-22, 25-13, 28-26).
In the win over Nichols, Veasey had a season-high 14 kills in the win, while junior Caroline Fuentes (Downey, Calif.) added a season-high 13 digs to pitch in defensively. Seniors Shay Faber (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and Haley Schulte (Fullerton, Calif.) split the load from the setter position, dishing out 12 and 10 assists respectively.
Veasey again shined in the second match of the afternoon, recording a double-double in the losing effort to Coast Guard. The sophomore tallied 11 kills and 10 digs for her first double-double of the season. Veasey was one of three Pride players to pick up double digits in digs in the match, with 13 from senior Sydney Trusty (Durham, Conn.) and 10 from Schulte. Schulte had a double-double in the match as well, picking up a team-high 14 assists.
The doubleheader concluded an eight-match road trip to open the season for the Pride, who will finally return home for a match against Colby-Sawyer on Wednesday night at Higgins Court. First serve from Weston is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
