NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Regis (Mass.) women's volleyball team entered the day in search of its first win, but the search would have to continue as the Pride dropped a pair of matches at the Connecticut College Tournament, Friday night at the Luce Field House. Regis fell in straight sets 25-20, 25-10, 25-19 to Worcester State before losing to host Connecticut College 25-17, 25-21, 23-25, 25-14.

Katryna Veasey (Quincy, Mass.) delivered seven kills and recorded a stellar 19 digs but it proved to be of little impact. The Pride (0-6) trailed early in set one but three straight points gave Regis its first lead at 10-9. The lead was quickly lost but Regis continued to remain close as late Veasey and Haley Schulte (Fullerton, Calif.) kills shaved the lead to 21-19. The Lancers would immediately pull away, winning four of the next five points to take the set.

WSU (3-2) raced out to an early set two lead and, after cruising to the win, looked prime to easily complete the sweep. Regis had other ideas however and nearly staved off the straight-set loss. Back-to-back Nicole Connolly (San Mateo, Calif.) kills gave the Pride a 10-8 lead, then later a Schulte ace evened the score at 18-18. Regis would run out of stream though as WSU closed the set on a 7-1 run to seal the sweep.

Amari King (Lawrence, Mass.) led WSU with eight kills and nine digs with Emily Carens (Northborough, Mass.) adding six kills and nine digs. Megan Leavens (Storrs, Conn.) had a team-high 16 digs.

Versus Connecticut College, Regis trailed throughout the opening set. The Pride closed the gap to 18-16, but the Camels reeled off seven of the next eight points to pull away for the win. The teams then played a tight second set which was taken by the hosts when sophomore Grace McGee (Portland, Ore.) set up freshman Katie Howley (Marshfield, Mass.) on set point, while senior Caroline Branigan (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) dropped consecutive aces down the stretch to help fuel the set victory.

After dropping the third frame, Connecticut College came out firing in the fourth and built up a 10-point cushion at 18-8. Howley eventually sealed the victory by finding an open spot for her seventh kill of the contest.

The Camels dominated with its service game and finished with 18 aces over the four sets. McGee led the way with seven aces while also finishing with 25 assists, five digs and three kills. Hunter contributed 12 kills and nine digs to go along with five aces, and Hewlin notched 11 kills and hit at a .348 clip. Veasey led the Pride with eight kills with Caroline Fuentes (Downey, Calif.) recording a team-best 10 digs.

Regis concludes the tournament Saturday with matches against Nichols (10:00 a.m.) and the Coast Guard (2:00 p.m.). Connecticut College (3-0) will look to remain undefeated when it hosts Nichols at noon and Western Connecticut State at 2:00 p.m.
