DARTMOUTH, Mass. - The Regis College women's volleyball team wrapped up a successful weekend at the UMass.-Dartmouth Invitational, going 2-1 overall after picking up wins over Mass.-Dartmouth and Eastern Nazarene. The Pride now stand at 3-5 on the young season.
Regis dropped a 3-0 decision (25-18, 25-13, 25-19) to Framingham State in the opening match of the tournament. Freshman Kristina del Rey (Miami, Fla.) and senior Vanessa Noesi(Puerto Plata, D.R.) combined for ten kills and seven blocks to lead the Pride in the losing effort. Junior Marilia Ramos (Chimbote, Peru) had a team-high 13 assists for Regis, while junior outside hitter Sam Bliss (Framingham, Mass.) led the Pride with nine digs.
In the second match of the day, Regis defeated Mass.-Dartmouth, 3-1 (25-23, 25-21, 18-25, 25-21). Bliss led the Crimson & Gold with 11 kills, five service aces, and 11 digs, while Noesi and junior outside hitter Jackie Silver (West Hills, Calif.) notched seven kills apiece. Silver also chipped in with seven digs, while Noesi had five total blocks. Senior libero Sara Gold (North Hollywood, Calif.) registered a game-high 24 digs to go along with three service aces. Ramos once again led the Pride with 19 assists, while she also added two service aces, 12 digs, and two block assists.
Regis saved its best volleyball for the last match of the day in a 3-0 sweep (25-22, 25-13, 25-16) of Eastern Nazarene, a team that had beaten the Pride earlier this season. Bliss came up huge again with ten kills, one service ace, and 11 digs. Junior defensive specialist Sara Casullo (Little Falls, N.Y.) and del Rey combined for 14 kills; Casullo added 13 digs, one solo block, and one service ace, while del Rey also had two service aces, one dig, and three total blocks. Ramos pitched in with eight digs as well as game-high 25 assists and four service aces. Gold once again had a game-high 28 digs, as well as two assists and two service aces. Silver had nine kills, nine digs, and a block assist.
The Pride will be back in action on Thursday evening as they travel to Bridgewater State for a 6:00 p.m. match with the Bears.
