Pride Women’s Track and Field Starts Indoor Campaign

ROXBURY, Mass. – Solid performances by both returners and newcomers highlighted the season opening meet for the Regis College women's track and field team, as the Pride took part in the UMass Boston Indoor Opener Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center.

Liz Ksepka (Calais, Vt.) finished in seventh place in the weight throw with a top mark of 12.21 meters (40' 0.75"), a personal collegiate best, and in 10th place in the shot put at 10.89 meters (35' 8.75"). Fellow senior Elliana Boebel (Bedford, Mass.) finished in 15th place in the weight throw at 11.28 meters (37' 0.25") and in 18th place in the shot put with a top throw of 10.05 meters (32' 11.75").

Cassandra Froio (Tewksbury, Mass.) produced personal indoor collegiate best times in all three individual events she competed in, starting with a 31st place finish in the 60 meter dash in 8.60 seconds. She also posted a time of 29.41 seconds in the 200 meter dash, 0.28 seconds faster than her previous indoor best, and a mark of 1:38.81 in the 500 meter run, 1.46 seconds quicker than her time at this event last year.

In her first collegiate meet, Lourdes Jean-Louis led the Pride in both the 200 meter dash at 28.53 seconds and the 500 meter run at 1:32.98. She also posted a time of 8.742 seconds in the 60 meter dash, just ahead of teammate Erin Sheehan at 8.743 seconds. Sheehan joined Froio and Jean-Louis in competing in three track events Saturday, as did Malaysia Cabral, Emily Fagundo (Dover, N.H.), and Hannah Plamondon.

In the 5000 meter run, Ashleigh Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) finished in 14th place with a time of 20:16.49, while her sister Erin Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) completed the event in 21:21.77. Both Kelley sisters joined Fagundo and Froio in the 4x400 meter relay, with the quartet posting a mark of 5:00.11.

Regis will head north for the Plymouth State Classic in Plymouth, N.H., next Saturday, Dec. 8, before taking a month off for fall semester finals and the holiday break.
