Track & Field Send Strong Contingent to New England Championships

WESTON, Mass. - The Regis (Mass.) men's and women's track & field teams will be well represented this weekend as 12 Pride student-athletes compete in the Division III Track & Field Championships at MIT.

A year ago, the Pride sent five to the New England Championships, and four of those five will return to compete this year. Sophomores Bernice Boateng (Danielson, Conn.) and ChiChi Akanegbu (North Easton, Mass.), junior Liz Ksepka (Calais, Vt.), and senior Kate Cowden (Wilmington, Mass.) will all compete over the weekend for the second time in as many years.

The Regis men's track and field will be represented at the New England Outdoor Championships for the first time since 2016 this weekend. Junior Matthew Malone (West Roxbury, Mass.) qualified for the Championships in the 110-meter hurdles for the second time in three years, while senior Fred Mathieu (Miami, Fla.) has qualified for New Englands for the first time. He will compete in the 400 meter.

Boateng will be the third leg of a pair of Pride women's relay teams competing over the weekend, as both the 4x100 and 4x400 have qualified. Junior Cassandra Froio (Tewksbury, Mass.), freshman Payton Fitzgerald (Danielson, Conn.), and junior Fatima St. Hilaire (Danvers, Mass.) will team up for the 4x100, with freshman Abby Flaherty (Millbury, Mass.) joining St. Hilaire, Boateng, and Fitzgerald for the 4x400.

St. Hilaire will have an extremely busy weekend for the Pride, as she will also compete in the 100 meter dash, the triple jump, and the long jump, leading all Pride athletes with five events.

Akanegbu will be the lone Regis representative in the women's hammer throw, but will be one of four from the Pride to compete in the women's shot put. She will be joined by Cowden, Ksepka, and junior Elliana Boebel (Bedford, Mass.) in the event. Cowden will also take part in the women's discus throw, along with teammate Elisabeth Cooke (East Longmeadow, Mass.).

A complete listing of events in which the Pride will compete is below. All times are approximate and dependent on other previous events. Live results can be found at http://liveresults.usatfne.org/, with live streaming video at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/mit/.
