Track & Field Competes at Panther Invitational

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - For the second time in as many meets, junior Fatima St. Hilaire (Danvers, Mass.) set a new program record to highlight a strong showing by the Regis (Mass.) men's and women's track & field teams on Saturday at the Panther Invitational at Plymouth State University. 

St. Hilaire placed 1st in the long jump with a new school record of 5.36 meters, breaking her own mark of 5.08 meters from Jan. 16, 2016. That mark also qualifies her for the Division III New England Championships. Last weekend, St. Hilaire set a new record in the 55 meter dash.The junior also finished fifth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 28.38 on Saturday.

Freshman Abby Flaherty (Millbury, Mass.) shined among the Regis runners, placing first in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:04.46. Teammates Bernice Boateng (Danielson, Conn.) and St. Hilaire finished 10th and 11th. Boateng also placed second in the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.34.

For the Pride throwers, senior Kate Cowden (Wilmington, Mass.) finished third in the shot put with a new personal best throw of 11.94 meters. Regis rounded out the top 10 with seventh, eighth, and ninth finishes from Elisabeth Cooke (East Longmeadow, Mass.), Elliana Boebel (Bedford, Mass.), and Liz Ksepka (Calais, Vt.). 

On the men's side, junior Fred Mathieu (Miami, Fla.) was a busy man on Saturday afternoon, and looked sharp throughout the day. He opened the day up by placing fourth in the 200 meter with a time of 24.08, before he advanced to the finals in the 60 meter dash, placing eighth overall. In his third event of the day, Mathieu placed fifth in the 500 meter dash, and was followed by a sixth place finish by teammate Hank Jean-Jacques (Fairfield, Conn.). Junior Matthew Malone (West Roxbury, Mass.) highlighted the men's hurdlers on the day, placing fourth in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.08. 

On the distance side, the Pride stole spots 12 through 17 in the mile run. Junior Kyle Gillen-Hughes (Reading, Mass.) was the top Pride finisher in 12th place with a time of 4:51.01. He was followed by, in order, Nicholas Sahagian (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; 4:53.76), Jovan Sematimba (Burlington, Mass.; 4:54.25), Sean Toomey (Salem, N.H.; 4:57.01), JJ Pedersen (Milford, Conn.; 5:00.50), and Shane Romanchick (Trumbull, Conn.; 5:01.93). 

In the men's weight throw, the Pride's Daniel LaFlamme (Watertown, Conn.) placed third with a throw of 12.97 meters. Teammates Taylor Garner (Richmond, Vt.) and Frank Pelleteri (Freeport, Maine) finished fourth and sixth. Pelleteri also placed third in the men's shot put with a new personal best throw of 12.50 meters. LaFlamme and Garner finished sixth and 10th, respectively, in the event. 

The Pride will head back to the track for the Stampede Invitational at Tufts University next Saturday. The first events of the day are slated to get under way at 10:00 a.m.
