Duguay, Akanegbu Qualify for ECAC's On Final Day of New England's

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - Keegan Duguay (Watertown, Mass.) and ChiChi Akanegbu (North Easton, Mass.) saved their best for last, delivering outstanding performances on the final day of the Division III New England Collegiate Championships for the Regis (Mass.) track and field team, both qualifying for the ECAC Championships set to be held May 17-18.

Duguay finished eighth in the 100 meter hurdles (15.53) and broke her own school record in the process. She advanced to today's finals race by the narrowest of margins in the prelims on Friday, allowing her one more chance for an ECAC qualifying time, one she took full advantage of.

Akanegbu's performance was also of a record-setting variety. She broke her own school record in the shot put, throwing 11.67 meters to qualify for the ECAC Championships.

Bernice Boateng (Danielson, Conn.) competed on the final day as well, finished 11th in the 100 meter dash and also breaking her own school record with a time of 12.79.

Kate Cowden (Wilmington, Mass.), already an ECAC qualifier, placed sixth in the discus with a throw of 36.83 meters.

Cowden and Duguay's performances landed them both All-New England honors.

Duguay, Akanegbu and Cowden will have next weekend off before traveling to Westfield State University for the two-day ECAC event.
